Periodic Changes of the Male Peproductive Organs and Electrophoretic Pattern of Proteins in the Korean Greater Horseshoe Bat, Rhinolophus ferrumequinum korai

Abstract
The present study has been attempted to examine periodic change of the male reproductive organs according to the annual cycle of activity in the Korean greater horseshoe bat (Rhinolophus ferrumequinum korai) and, to analyse histological changes of testis and epididymides, in accordance with variaties of proteins in testis and epididymides, by means of light and electron microscope, and electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE).
The results obtained from the present study are as follows.
1. Histological observations and electrophoretic pattern of proteins of the testis and epididymides during the active phase:
The spermatogenesis in testis has begun at May in the year and finished at late October in the same year. The spermatocytogenesis have happened from May to June only. And, Spermiogenesis occurred from early July to mid-October. The spermatogenic activity was vigorous from mid-August to late September. The lumen of seminiferous tubules had begun to open from May, after the upon arousal of hibernation, and had opened till October, before the starting day of hibernation.
In electrophoretic pattern of proteins of the testis during the active phase, 84KD band had appeared, from July to October in the testis only. Therefore, the appearing period of 84KD band corresponds with spermiogenesis in spermatogenesis. And it is considered as the testis specific protein closely related with spermiogenesis.
The histological changes of the cauda epididymis in active phase: The stored old sperm were
